Reading Diary A: Eskimo Folk-Tales

The story that I found most interesting was Makite in the Eskimo Folk-Tales unit. I like the concept of a lone wolf story. He just up and left his village to be alone. Now, I do not understand why he originally wanted to live alone in the first place. He was did say she would leave him, but I think he responded to extremely to it. I thought it was interesting that the men chased after him. Even though his why did not care for him, it seemed like her brothers like and cared for him. I did like the scene with him and the first lone dweller. I loved how he threatened to kill the guy and then shared a meal with him afterward. How awkward would that be? I like he imagery the author used in the story. I like how he described the fight and battle scenes. The whole dwarf part was extremely confusing to me. I did not understand how that fit into the story at all; however, I thought the battle and using the water to drown their enemies was pretty cool. The character Makite was very interesting to me, which is why I found this story the most interesting. I stated early that I felt he reacted to extreme; however, he did seem to thrive living on his own. He ended up killing the other guy without even looking! How bad ass is that? The story as a whole did not make sense to me, but I just really enjoyed all the different little section it had.

Reading Diary B: Blackfoot Stories

The story that stuck out to me the most from the latter half of Blackfoot unit was the Bobcat and the Birch.  Judging off the name of the title, I did not expect that type of plot. It focused on a man that made the bobcat and the birch look the way they do now. I did not like the Old Man character one bit. The Old Man seemed so crewel, and deceitful. He first tricked the prairie dogs and ate them after they were so kind and considerate to him. Than he hurts the bobcat just because it ate his food, which he wrongly got in the first place. The guy seems like a grade A douche. Then he burns his own nose, when it was his fault he didn’t wake up. The nose tried and tried so it was not its fault. I just was not expecting this story to be about a man who did these weird and mean things. I was also kind of mad karma did not catch up with him in the end. With the wind almost bowing him away, I thought he was about to get. Than the birch tree saved him, which was pretty frustrating.  The title did not got with the plot really, only with the fact that the man rearranged both the bobcat and birch’s images.

Reading Diary A Week 9: Blackfoot Unit

The Wolf Man was my favorite story from the first half of the Blackfoot Unit. I like the relationship that was established between the man and the animals. I thought it was pretty interesting how only the man’s head, hands, and feet changed into wolf parts. I can really picture that, and I think that would be pretty awesome to have lol. I like seeing the compassion that the animals had for the man in the first place. I mean he hunts them and they still decided to save him.

I liked how the women did not get away with their crime. I do not feel bad for them either. They wanted to socialize and not contribute; and when they could not, they got butt hurt. In the end karma came back for them. Justice was definitely served.

 I did not like the fact that the author gave no closure to the wolf man. Did he continue to live with the wolves, did he live with the humans, or did he change back? I guess that wasn’t really the moral point of the story, but I just appreciate closure and I thought it was too easy to throw that end. My conclusion is he continued to live with the wolves, because that is what I want to happen.

Commenting Review Week

Looking back on the comments from the first part of the semester, my biggest mistake is grammar. Even when read it out loud to myself, I still miss some obvious spelling mistakes or misused tenses. That will be what I try to fix this later half of the semester. I might have to make one of my roommates read it or something, because I apparently can’t pick up on them. Good news is I have a lot of room for improving! Pulled this image of grammar from Ohio University.

Writing Review Week

Looking back on my storybooks, I found that the stories I enjoyed the most where the ones I rewrote in 1^st person. I am thinking for the rest of this semester I am going to do mostly 1^st person. I think the stories are better, and I remember enjoying writing 1^st person stories more. For example, the story I wrote that had a 1^st person perspective of one of Jesus’s disciples was my favorite one to write. I feel like I can be more creative and imaginative if I just focus on one character really. I chose this image of Snoopy writing only because I love Peanuts and Snoopy is my favorite character.

Reading Review Week

Looking back on the reading diaries, the section I enjoyed the most was the gospel of Mark. I based my story for that week off the book, but I have based most of my stories from the section I mentioned in the reading diaries. The gospel of Mark just stood out the most, and I remember the stories the most from that unit. It was also my favorite story I wrote as well! There wasn't a bad story that I read in Mark, whereas most units have one that I either didn't care for or liked. I am a sucker for awesome hero stories, and Mark is about Jesus whom I believe is the best example of a true hero. It makes sense why that unit stuck out to me the most and I enjoyed it the most. I chose this image of Captain America because he is my favorite superhero, and I also just love this picture!
